While the Washington Freedom was looking to rebound from their 1-2 decision against the Chicago Red Stars, the league-leading Los Angeles Sol came into town looking to pull farther ahead in the number one spot in the league.

The Freedom did their part for 90 minutes, but in extra minutes LA Sol’s Marta with her footwork and speed beat the Freedom defense scoring LA’s only goal.

While the Freedom and Sol have played twice already this season this marks the first time this season that the Freedom will had their home town fans there to cheer them on. For the most part the fans had a lot to cheer about as Freedom played a great game, narrowly missing several scoring opportunities.

Next up for the Freedom is an away game against Sky Blue FC before returning back home on July 18 to play Saint Louis Athletica at RFK in a double header prior DC United match-up with the Colorado Rapids.

In the 86th minute, the United came from behind and tied the score at 2-2, but Toronto answered back a minute later, regaining the lead. In the 92nd minute, the United earned a penalty kick and Jaime Moreno delivered, ending the game at 3-3. The tie allows the United to retain their Eastern Conference lead.

Women’s professional soccer is back. Tonight the Chicago’s Red Stars were in town to play the Washington Freedom. Defender Becky Sauerbrunn scored the team’s first goal in the 54th minute on a cross from midfielder Sonia Bompastor to tie the score.

Despite outshooting Chicago 26-8, the Freedom weren’t able to convert their on field dominance into any additional scores.

D.C. United scored their first victory of the young season over the Houston Dynamo, 1-0. Luciano Emilio scored the games lone goal in the 47 minute of play, lobbing the ball over Houston’s goalie Pat Onstad.

“It’s good to be tested early and to come away with three points. It shows that we got some men out there and we stepped up in a difficult situation against a good team,” said Ben Olsen. “They’re still Houston, they still have a lot of weapons. To fight like that as a team and get out with three points is a great first win for us. There are still things we can work on, I think the soccer at times, is not the greatest, but defensively some of the stuff we’ve emphasized was pretty good.”
